Fleming's Pumpkin Run

For the last 21 years, one of the more interesting and diverse vehicle shows (it was more than merely a car show) was held at a long defunct junkyard in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey.  It was recently canceled by the junkyard's owner, Harry Fleming.  The show had simply grown too big and popular and the infrastructure and size of the salvage yard could no longer bear the throngs of people, vendors and show cars.  We did not attend the show every year for that reason.  When we were able to brave the crowds, we were richly rewarded!  We were lucky enough to be present at last year's show, the last one to be held at the junkyard, at least for the time being.

That's the bad news, the good news is that Upper Township, New Jersey has agreed to host the Pumpkin Run.  The atmosphere of the junkyard will be missing, but the show will go on.  For 2017, the date is November 4th, 2017.  The Place is Amanda's Field, 1091 Route 50, Woodbine, NJ 08270.

Here's part one of an extensive album of pics I took over the years.  These aren't even the my best shots.  I am going to post more pics in a separate post. You'll see what made it so special.

Old trucks are as cool as old cars in terms of design and detail.  The sign in the background made for a great shot!

An Edsel returns to the earth.  Ashes to ashes, rust to rust.

I love die-cast models and always hit the vendors of them to see what they have.

Very nice 1948 Chevy!  Appears to be resto-modded.  Meaning the owner left the car looking pretty much stock on the outside, but modernized the mechanical components.

A 1956 Continental MK II.  An example of the eclectic selection of cars on display.

I bought this nice little diecast Chrysler Airflow model from a Vendor for only $5.00!

"Fury Jim" rebuilds 1957-58 Plymouth Instrument Clusters Color-Keyed to the Car!

This green wagon had the green-lit instrument cluster in it.

I've always been plum crazy for "Plum Crazy"

Nothing's new:  Take note Tesla owners! 1923 Detroit Electric. In the first third of the 20th Century, Gasoline, Steam and Electric vehicles competed in the marketplace.  Guess we all know that internal combustion won.

This owner didn't like DeSoto's "Twin Tower" taillight treatment, so he upgraded to Chrysler units.

Flemings is full of neat old petroliana.  Makes a great backdrop for the cars!

 "Picturerequesly Abandoned" vehicles abound!

Went to all the trouble of putting Billy's '73 Grand Prix in the Car Corral, just to have it sell the next day after a half-hour of sitting outside his brother's house.

Once regal 1955 Imperial.  Lord knows when it was towed into the junkyard!

 Flea Market finds.

You can take a load off your feet by sitting in the vintage diner (no food served).

Who can identify what cars these engines once powered?

The vintage gas station is always a highlight!
